Devastating floods have left thousands of families in Nepal without food, safe drinking water or shelter. Rotary Ireland has launched the Nepal Flood Appeal, with an initial target of €10,000, delivered through Rotary partners we have worked with for more than 40 years.
The situation
Rescue and recovery operations are continuing, and the scale of need remains immense. Many areas are still inaccessible by road, and thousands of displaced families are living in temporary holding centres without basic necessities.
The Nepalese government’s efforts are currently focused on rescue operations, which means supplying emergency items to those in need remains a major challenge. This is precisely where Rotary’s ability to act quickly through trusted local partners makes a real difference.
A trusted, long-standing partner
Rotary Ireland has supported Rotary in Nepal for over 40 years. In recent years, we have delivered five Global Grant projects together:
- Two water and sanitation projects
- Two digital-learning projects
- One solar-irrigation project
Three of these have been successfully completed. A solar-pump project and a digital-learning project, valued at US$88,000, are currently ongoing.
Our Rotary partners in Nepal have now asked for urgent help following the floods. Every euro or pound donated through this appeal will directly support emergency food, essential supplies and shelter for affected families.
What the appeal will deliver
The Rotary Club of Chitwan (Bharatpur, Nepal), working with Rotary District 3292 (Kathmandu), plans to support 200 of the most vulnerable families across three holding centres that other agencies have been unable to reach.
Support will include:
- Emergency food supplies
- Hygiene and sanitation items
- Buckets and cooking utensils
- Tarpaulins and temporary-shelter materials
- Other essential non-food items
Rotary Ireland has set an initial target of €10,000. To give a sense of scale, a customised shelter pack containing lifesaving aid such as a family tent, a water filter and a cooking set costs in the region of £590 / €690.

Clubs in the United States are already funding water filters, so our Nepalese partners have asked us to focus on food, essential supplies, and shelter to avoid duplication.
