Generation Chef
An all-island culinary competition coordinated by Rotary in partnership with catering colleges across Northern Ireland and the Republic. Student chefs compete in teams of three, learn from industry professionals, and earn recognition for the work they do behind a hot pass.
A Rotary initiative
Fired up, focused, and given a real stage
Generation Chef is Rotary Ireland’s flagship culinary competition. It takes the energy of a competitive professional kitchen — the timing, the plating, the service standards, the working as one team — and gives student chefs a season’s worth of it. The format runs over twelve weeks each spring: six regional college finals across the island, followed by an inter-college championship where the winning teams from each region cook for the overall title.
Why Rotary supports it
Generation Chef sits squarely in two of Rotary’s areas of focus — education and economic and community development. The catering and hospitality sector is one of the largest employers on the island, and the path from a college kitchen to a hotel pass to a professional career benefits enormously from mentorship, exposure to industry standards, and a moment of public recognition early on. Rotary clubs across Ireland coordinate the programme, raise funds with industry partners, and put forward judges for the regional and final rounds.
