KILLARNEY, Wednesday 22 July 2026 — Killarney Rotary Club has hosted Rotary District Governor George Roche and his wife, Maeve, for his official visit — the annual point in the Rotary year when the district’s leader sits down with a club, takes stock of its service work and hears what it has planned.
Members used the visit to walk the District Governor through the projects they are running in Killarney and to map out the year ahead, as clubs across District 1160 get behind this year’s Rotary theme, Creating Lasting Impact.
A new president, a familiar mission
Newly elected club President Yolande Nieman hosted George and Maeve, and said the visit was a chance to show the district’s leader the commitment behind the club’s work.
“Rotary has a proud tradition of bringing people together to improve lives, both locally and internationally. As president, I am excited to lead our club in supporting this year’s message of Creating Lasting Impact. Together, we want to continue delivering projects that strengthen our community, support local organisations, and create positive change that will be felt for years to come.”

George Roche used his visit to thank members for their service and urged them to keep looking for practical ways Rotary can make a difference across Killarney.
Building on a record of local service
The club has spent years backing local charities, community groups, youth development programmes and international humanitarian causes. President Nieman’s aim for the year is to add to that record — forming new partnerships and taking on projects that meet the needs Killarney has now, rather than the ones it had a decade ago.
The club thanked George and Maeve for making the trip, and for the district’s continued support of its clubs — part of a wider network of 65 clubs and 1,381 members across the island of Ireland.
