MALLOW, Sunday 19 July 2026 — District Governor George Roche visited Mallow Meals on Wheels this week to see the combi oven the Rotary Club of Mallow helped fund this year, joined by his wife, Maeve, and club President Catherine.

The visit took place at the Meals on Wheels kitchen in Mallow before the District Governor’s official visit to the club’s lunch at Hi B. The group was photographed in front of the new oven, which the service now uses to prepare hot meals delivered to older and housebound people across the town and surrounding area.
Why the kitchen equipment matters
A combi oven combines convection heat and steam in one unit, allowing a small kitchen team to cook larger batches consistently and hold food safely at a temperature before delivery. For a volunteer-run meals service working to a tight daily schedule, that capacity is the difference between meeting demand and turning people away.
Chef John showed the visitors through the kitchen facility and explained how the equipment fits into the daily routine. Club member Kevin organised the visit.
Local funding, local impact
Equipment grants of this kind are typical of the hands-on service work carried out across our 65 Rotary clubs in Ireland — practical, locally decided, and aimed at organisations already doing the work. Mallow is one of the clubs in District 1160, the only Rotary district that spans the whole island of Ireland.
